The Child

Today I see a child, drowning in sedation,
Drowning in the pace of our strictly scheduled lives.
Like a soldier on the front, like a lamb to the slaughter,
We reconcile the loss and we justify the fight

But will we find someone to trust among the betrayed and forsaken?
Will we find someone to share in this strange, confusing life?
Will we ever feel the warmth that love brings to the colder?
Will we ever truly see what's important in our lives?

Overwhelmed by routine, our humanity left vacant.
The habit we've become takes us from the child.
Eventually we'll see that we're nothing but a shadow
Chained to a life that we detest and despise

But will we find someone to trust among the betrayed and forsaken?
Will we find someone to share in this strange, confusing life?
Will we ever feel the warmth that love brings to the colder?
Will we ever truly see what's important in our lives?

To take the child we must learn from our mistakes and
Somehow find the strength to resist our way of life
Some people only learn the pains of growing older,
Some people stop and see the smile of the child.
