Nevermore

To hide the way I feel I conceal my desire.
Convinced I'm not a liar I ignore the warning sound
But I stumbled when I found you finding me around
Denying my despondence more and more

The desolation that broke my mettle could not compare to the petal
Of that lovely flower on the floor
And the comfort I enjoy comes from the thoughts I now destroy
Because the cynic speaks for me nevermore

Your comforting sensation caused no hesitation
And the pain of isolation has gone away
My life has been restored and I'm not bitter any more
The raven speaks to me nevermore

Even though some may contend that the numbing pain befriends
I have faith in the beauty of the end

"Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortals ever dared to dream before;
But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token," (Poe 1845)
That the raven speaks to me nevermore

Even though some may contend that the numbing pain befriends
I have faith in the beauty of the end.
